Focus: Carlos Huante

October 1st, 2006

The Art of Carlos Huante is of a that particular kind that is difficult to assess. it is at times creepy, scary, fantastic and somewhat dark. Beautifully rendered characters go about their duty in settings of darkness and foreboding. On the other side there is the more cartoon based aspect, where a more striking color scheme is used to highlight the design of these less menacing pieces.

Carlos main focus surely lies on concept design though. He has amassed a huge collection of character renditions, designs, sketches and the like of many a thing fantastic, science fictional or medieval. Zombies, Monsters, Soldiers, you name it. He also frequently uses animals in one way or another to supplement his creations, his concepts are truly a diverse and unique joy to behold.

Then there are the sculptures. 3D assemblages are an important part in the design process helping any piece spring to life more that a 2D piece perhaps would. Carlos’s sculptures are, just like his drawings and paintings, a joy to look at. Marveslously executed and expertly crafted, they make his designs manifest themselves even more as the creepy, somewhat scary objects that they already are.

He uses his his site over at www.carloshuanteart.com as his main portfolio, and believe me, it is massive. Packed with work to keep you occupied looking at it for ages, it is also an amazing piece of website design. But you should see it for yourself and check out all the features it has to offer.
