Urville
October 2nd, 2006Perhaps not strictly qualfying as news, I came across this very interesting read a few days ago and hope you will find it as inspiring as I did.
Let me tell you something about Gilles Trehin first, or more specifically, here’s a quote:
I’m told I have autism, some say I have Asperger’s syndrome (it’s very similar). Maybe it is the reasonI have been drawing since the age of 5 and I have always been fascinated by big cities and aeroplanes.
In 1984, I started to be interested by the conception of an imaginary city called Urville. The name came from “Dumont d’Urville”, a scientific base, in a French territory of the Antarctic. Since then, I made many (200) drawings of Urville, and I wrote a historical, geographical, cultural and economic description.

The amazing part is that the city that Gilles has created is so detailed and rich that you might believe that it actually exists. The passion with which he pursues his dream of creating “Urville” is simply infectious, and the art he creates as a part of it is just as fantastic.
Check out a quick video about Gilles and Urville here.
Or go check out his website for VERY detailed descriptions of his work and Urville here.
