fate135 (click to see her work in the galleries) is an illustrator with great skill and imagination, her images are both mysterious and beautiful. She has been kind enough to answer a few questions that we thought might be interesting to her fellow AmateurIllustrator.com members:
Briefly tell us a little about your background and education?
I’ve been drawing for as long as I can remember and most likely before I can remember. In terms of education I’ve been trying to get what I can but to date that has pretty much been a few high school art classes and a beginner college course.

What are your influences and what inspires you?
What inspires me most I think is just what I see in my everyday life. Nature has an especially big role to play in most things I produce but I suppose daily life is so infused with nature that it can hardly be seperated. A lot of my art has also been heavily influenced by my dreams and a large chunk of my characters have been those I have met or been while dreaming. For most of my work the goal is to give the viewer at least some semblence of what I had felt when inspired by a particular sight, thought or subject.
Explain a little about your process and techniques, how much do you use the computer when producing a piece?
At the moment a large ammount of my work is done with Photoshop. Its a wonderful program that allows me to experiment without spending a lot of money on paint and studio space. Other then photoshop I prefer using pens and inks as well as watercolor and colored pencils.
Do you practice illustration for professional reasons or for fun or both?
I illustrate primarily to get the thoughts inside my head out of it. I could say that this is an effort to let others see what I have thought but it is not. In reality it helps keep the ideas from stagnating and driving me nutty by nagging at me to draw them or express them some other way.

How do you see yourself growing and evolving as an illustrator, where would you like to be in the future as an illustrator?
I hope to gain more discipline with my creativity. A lot of people say that creativity comes in waves and there’s nothing one can do about that, but I don’t think that’s true. I believe with creativity as well as anything else one needs some discipline to succeed. I hope gaining more discipline in my work will help me get my ideas out more
effectively.
