About Amateur Illustrator - the online illustration & art community
AmateurIllustrator is an online art community that allows artists and illustrators to connect with one another. While the term "amateur" is part of our name, we have some amazing talented artists in our community including seasoned professionals. We named our site 'amateur illustrator' because the original and true meaning of the word is to do something because you love doing it. Someone who does something out of love often does it better and with more passion than someone who is being paid. The name also has no pretensions...we want illustrators who are beginners as well as seasoned pros to visit and use our site. We're a small community, but are putting efforts into growing fast, and we also pride ourselves on opening our door to the right kind of people - specifically illustrators.
WHO IS AMATEUR ILLUSTRATOR?
Amateur Illustrator is owned and operated by Mixart New Media, LLC - based in Redmond, Washington. Amateur Illustrator was originally created by Nick Franklin in August 2006. At the time Nick was an illustration student at the University of Lincoln (in the UK). Nikolai Schmid, fellow illustration student and Ingmar Zahorsky (animation graduate from the Art Institute of California) have been part time contributers and moderators of amateur illustrator since its conception. In 2011, Nick welcomed Mixart New Media (Owned and operated by Mick Gow) to the Amateur Illustrator family to build the community and help it reach it's full potential. Mixart New Media has had much success with RateMyDrawings.com and hopes to take his learnings to help build Amateur Illustrator. These two art communities are distinctly different, but there is a simple philosophy that will be taken by the team moving forward: embrace our members and their ability to showcase their artwork and the rest will follow.
OUR MISSION
To serve and grow the Amateur Illustrator community by respecting our members, nurturing their talent and creating new opportunities for them.
SUBMIT YOUR ARTWORK
A big part of our community is allowing users to submit and share your artwork. You've spent hours or days on your masterpieces, and now it's time to share it with the world. We don't care how your artwork was created, as long as it was created with passion and came from your heart. We respect copyright, so please always ensure your submissions are your own - you can learn more about our Copyright policy here.
